Peachtober Day 4: Tiger. 🐯
‘Never judge a tiger by its stripes.’
An illustration about not judging someone by their looks or what you heard about them.
The fourth prompt of @peachtober is Tiger. Immediately, I wanted to illustrate a tiger as a big, cuddly cat instead of a big, dangerous animal.
Black or dark stripes are often used as violent, aggressive, evil, dangerous,… marks. They are often used as a symbol on the cheeks, to get ready for a fight. In the U.S., they used to dress prisoners in black and white striped clothing, in case they escaped, so they could spot the ‘dangerous’ people immediately.
A lot of the times, assumptions like these are still (unintentionally) embedded in our minds, and sometimes we act upon these thoughts, without even giving people or animals the chance to prove those thoughts wrong. We all have thoughts and assumptions, and they are all made upon how we were brought up, what we’ve been through, which people we surround ourselves with, what we read or see,… But it’s never too late to second guess them.😊
We never know what someone is going through, so be kind.☀️
